Doing the “captain’s chair” thing.
This is from the forthcoming story, in what looks like being the second part that will be uploaded once we’re up and running again. Must admit, I’m getting quite fond of the dress uniforms. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of nudity. It’s just oddly fun to draw her with some clothes on for a change 🙂
Another promo shot sort of thing.
I’m afraid at this exciting stage I’m having a bit of trouble finding stuff to post, because I’m basically just working on the relaunch episode and, y’know, spoilers. I don’t want to ruin it for the fanbase… both of them. Heh.
Might possibly be the episode cover, since it contains a shower scene. Or, might just be a picture of Lucy’s posterior. Either works for me 🙂
Thought you might like to see this, a page (first draft) from the “relaunch episode”.
This by the way is a new alien race, called the… called the… um… well, the working name is “The Easy To Draw Guys”. The page will probably see some degree of modification by the time it “hits the digital newsstand”. And get some bits of background. I must admit I’m quite fond of that first panel though 🙂
I’ve been a bit distracted for the past week, working towards this putative Lucy Lastique relaunch, because I need more than comic pages. I mean, by crikey, I need comic pages but also, in particular, the website is a bit old and creaky and “Web 1.0” as the young bugs call it. I mean, okay, it’s not quite in the GeoCities “Sign my Guestbook!” range, but the basic site is 10 years old, which is something like a millennium in web design.
So I’ve been staying up later and later for the past week remembering the old programming addiction of my youth (it’s nearly 5am as I type this, ooer). Well okay, web stuff isn’t real programming. It’s not smoking the bejesus out of a z80 with hand-crafted assembler (we wrote it out by hand with paper and pencil in those days, kids today they wouldn’t believe you, etc) but it’s moved on a long way from a soup of <font> tags and that fucking dancing baby animated gif that was on every website in the nineties. Heh.
I did the pic itself to mess around with this and that, drawing, colouring etc, hence its deliberately semi-completed status. Then, it sort of looked like a cover pose for a lads magazine like Loaded, Zoo, Nuts etc so I quickly added the lettering just for the shits’n’giggles. I thought the rendering of Lucy had come out rather well, so I thought I should share it with you, kind of thing.
I’ve talked a lot about drawing, but I also find colouring a challenge. I find everything a challenge. Tying my shoelaces is a major success, you know… Anyhoo, part of the problem with drawing erotic stuff is that it needs to be brightly lit so that you can see what’s going on clearly, whereas for comic booky colouring it’s much easier to get dramatic visuals with lots of darkness and shadows. And shiny superhero suits, also. So the two things tend to work in opposition, and I find it a real challenge getting colouring that looks good against, for instance, white backgrounds, and without clothing to break up the acres of pinky-orangey flesh which tend to look kinda monotonous. So this is sort of addressing that, a bit.
Jeez, those folks who say there’s no “art” in porn. If they had any idea the struggles we actually go through…
Thinking up stories is pretty easy. Everyone does it. The harder part is thinking up good ones. As I’ve worked on Lucy Lastique over the years I’ve often had ideas for other tales drift around in my head, but firstly I’ve not had the time to do them and secondly after a while cogitating on them, they’ve turned out to be not as good as I thought they were.
One bunch of related ideas have kept coming back to me though, especially as my own personal opinions on society and politics and relationships (and indeed sex) have evolved over time. In a sense I’m not the same person as the one who started Lucy Lastique, over a decade ago. Lucy has changed with me to some extent, but it also has a certain innate “character” which defines it, in the same way as, say, Star Trek has a certain character to it and when it veers away from that, it is broken. So these ideas for some stories that would explore these issues and speculations, distinct from what is possible and desirable in the Lucyverse, keep wandering back into my head. They’re more grounded in reality and tend to take place in the much nearer future from the present day onwards, and they’re kind of a suite of different ideas around that. But they’ve also never quite gelled together. But you know how something keeps niggling at you..?
So, at the moment as I’ve said before I’m working hard to get Lucy back into production. I did the following drawing really as a diversion and as general practice more than anything else, but it was also a fun exercise in realising potential characters visually for one of these other stories, the working title of which is, er, “The Hot Wives Club”. Heh.
